Legitimate Telecommuting Resources for Writers

As writers we need to find legitimate opportunities for writing and editing jobs that exist and we should help each other out. I’m sure many writers at Factoidz already know that there are many scams out there when it comes to finding telecommuting or freelance work. However, there are legitimate ways to find freelance work though.

Some of the sites to find work are completely free, however some do charge a membership or annual fee to use their site, be careful with any sites that charge you to find jobs as these are more likely to be scams. While I would love to see Factoidz become the only source of income for anyone willing to write good articles, the fact remains that many people must write for several sites or seek out other opportunities that exist to bring in extra income.

In order to help my fellow writers on Factoidz, or any other writers for that matter, I would like to provide you with a list of sites I’ve either used or come across and heard good things about. I have listed places for writers to look to find work and I have also listed some of the best freelance writing websites that have opportunities available. Please feel free to add to this list continuously to share your knowledge with the rest of the community.

Best places to look for freelance work/jobs:

You can also always use the regular job search sites like Monster, Career Builder, Hot Jobs and search for telecommute, freelance or regular positions. You may also want to consider doing a search for jobs in your area by using a search engine when specifically looking for a type of job in your local area.

Good ways to market your work:

  • Social sites like Twitter.com, Myspace.com and Facebook.com
  • Book marking sites like Stumble Upon, Digg, Delicious and Propellor.
  • Post links on forums, blogs, web sites and other online platforms.
  • Answer a question from another service like Yahoo! Answers and link to your article that has the answer.
  • Link to other articles you’ve wrote within current articles you’re writing.
  • Share your work with family and friends via email, chat or while talking face to face.
  • Use the badge or widget to add to your blog/site/social site.
  • Use Twitterly.com to post links to articles.
  • Use SEO techniques to make your content easily accessible and searchable. The more people who come across your articles via a search engine the more hits you will get.

I’m sure there are probably a lot of sites I’ve never heard of or just can’t think of at the moment, so please add to this list to let your fellow writers know where they can find good opportunities!

Hi there, thanks for these online resources. I will definitely check the sites. I would like to add Triond, allow me to post my link here...http://www.triond.com/rw/204455. Accepts articles, photos and videos. Payment through Paypal.

Thanks for this list.. I'll have to check some of these out.. I never did anything with Odesk or Guru.com.. I was just too leery about working and then not getting paid.

I wish headcrabs really existed, then you could fashion helmets out of them.
