How to Get Noticed by a Headhunter

Getting noticed by a headhunter takes attitude.

Your skills may get you an interview, but it is your attitude that will get you hired. This is the favorite proverb of recruiters, and this is an eye-opener for those who want to dazzle the recruiters with their degree and impeccable work experience.

Given a choice, many recruiters will choose an applicant with "average" skills but who can be taught and is willing to walk the extra mile than a so-called brilliant prodigy who chafes at overtime work and challenges his boss' every instruction.

In the workplace, character is given more premium because it takes more time to mold it than talent. Communication fluency can take a year of language classes, but how much longer would it take to reform a chronic liar and a know-it-all?

Integrity. The ability to stand by your word and deliver on your promise. Your boss never has cause to doubt the statements you give him. If you are trustworthy with the small stuff, you can be trusted for the big ones.

Commitment. Staying at your post until the project is done, giving your best all throughout.

Self-motivation and self-discipline. You can run with a project, guided only by your boss' directions, giving her no reason to follow up on you. You make your own deadlines and stick by them. When problems crop up, you come up with solutions instead of crying back to your boss. And when the chips are down, you can pull yourself back to fighting form in good time.

Emotional stability. All of us are human, but only the stable few can seamlessly seaparate the personal from the professional. Family and other non-work related sress can shake you a little, but they don't jar your focus and throw you off-kilter into days of unproductive despondency.

Volunteerism. It's going the extra mile and not counting the bean counter while you're at it. It's lending a helping hand when your boss or your officemates ask for it. It's agreeing to weekend work without so much as a grumble. The powers-that-be notice your generosity of spirit without your knowing it, and can reward you when the time comes.

Humility. The ability to listen to the guidance of your boss and the suggestions of your teammates. This does not imply your lack of intelligence but simply your willingness to learn and be open to ideas, regardless of where they came from.

Very true.....the best attitude speaks louder than degrees,and skills

Nice one Pearl - interestingly as a Handwriting Analyst (inter alia) the very attributes you mentioned, and much more, are accurately determined by HW Analysis, but people tend to go for Psychometric testing, which can be fudged.
